Exploring Gestures

This website will explore the concept of emblematic gestures and how important they are in intercultural communication.  Gestures play a crucial role in human communication no matter the culture or form of communication.  Whether it be non-verbal or verbal communication, gestures are used to help the person communicate.  Translating a particular gesture across cultures can be difficult with only a small amount of emblematic gestures being recognized across multiple cultures.  These universal emblematic gestures are in a way a genre, a form of framework that lets the person know what the context is of what is about to be said.
